Jib - Swivel Base
This area of the jib took me some time to figure out. I bought and returned a number of bearings until I found one that happened to work well with my set up. The key to this part of the jib is to use thrust bearings. The center picture below shows (top to bottom) the fork, a large washer, the thrust bearing, and then the top of the tripod. The picture below to the left simply shows the top of the tripod where the jib sits.
The picture above to the right shows the bolt which goes up through the tripod top, the large thrust bearing, and then the jib's center fork. Notice the small thrust bearing between the bolt head and the two large washers. This is necessary to allow the bolt to spin, whicn in turn allows the jib to spin. Thrust bearings are designed to work at lower rpm and with a load squeezing down on or pinching the bearing. This is good because I can crank down on the nut which holds the fork in place. With the fork tightened snugly, the jib does not wobel and the bearings still allow the jib to swivel.
