Jib - Camera Shelf
The camera end was made from the second piece of channel cut from the rectangular steel tubing. For the actual support shelf that the camera sits on, I used another section of the 2" X 5" X 1/16" thick steel tubing mentioned above. I cut the shelf from the section of tubing leaving a small lip and a triangular shape. This shape allows the shelf to hold the weight of the camera and the fluid head without bending or bouncing. The shelf and the channel were welded together to complete the camera end of the jib.
I intend to shorten the shelf in the future. The weight of the camera and the fluid head cause a very slight bounce when the jib is being used on top of a moving dolly. Otherwise, the jib is mostly used on a stationary tripod, in which case there is no bounce. I drilled two holes in the shelf. The larger hole is to attach the fluid head and camera. The small hole is to attach the camera without the fluid head.
