Jib - Weighted End
For both the weighted end and the camera end of the jib, I cut some 2" X 5" X 1/16" thick steel rectangular tubing in half (length wise) to create two channel shaped pieces. I used the two cut pieces to fit at either end of the aluminum lengths. The images below show one of the channel shapes which is used for the weighted end of the jib. I made the T-shape from 3/4" X 3/4" X 1/16" thick steel square tubing and welded it into place to hold the weights. I discuss the bearings that I used at the end of this topic.
I used standard sized weights available at any sporting goods store to balance the jib. The excess square tubing that sticks out on either side of the T-shape serves as handle bars to manuver the camera. I think that, technically speaking, using the jib this way makes it more of a small crane.
