Dolly

The dolly was fairly easy to build in comparison to the jib and tripod. The main idea of my plans came from Joren Clarks website. The main difference in my plans is the wheels. I attempted to use the wheels that Joren mentions in his design description, but the bumps caused by the skateboard wheels were too noticable during playback. I used nice quality rollerblade wheels instead which made a huge difference. PVC pipe works pretty well as the dolly track, but I have found that using the "top rail" for chain link fence seems to work better. The PVC connecters which Joren designed also work well, but sometimes create a slight bump when rolled over with the dolly. The PVC also likes to rotate as the dolly rolls over different areas. Top rail for chain link fencing works much better. It doesn't rotate as the PVC does and the top rail sections fit into each other tight enough that the rollerblade wheels roll over the connected area with no bumps. The total cost to build the dolly was around $150.00.
