Color Correction for Final Cut Pro
DigitalFilm Tree
DVD covering basic color theroy and how to put it to use in Final Cut Pro. Great info for using the 3-way color corrector.
My First Movie
Ed. Stephen Lowenstein
20 different directors talk about their first film. This book is less about advice and more about inspiring and interesting stories. A good read for film buffs and filmmakers. The Coen brothers' interview about Blood Simple is my favorite.
Cinematic Storytelling
Jennifer Van Sijll
This is one of my favorites. The Author breaks down example scenes from various films. Complete with images and script excerpts. Simple, to the point, and very informative.
Rebel Without a Crew
Robert Rodriguez
I'm not a big fan of Rodriguez's recent movies, but I am a fan of this book and his approach to filmmaking. The book is a journal of Rodriguez's adventures while making El Mariachi. Funny, entertaining, and inspiring.
In the Blink of an Eye
Walter Murch
This is a great book. Murch explains the concepts and ideas behind his editing skills. He also discusses his own transition into nonlinear editing.
Lighting for Digital Video & Television
John Jackman
This book will answer every question you have about lighting for DV. Does a great job of explaining the various types of lights and how to use them.
Digital Video Filmmaker's Handbook
Maxie D. Collier
This is a to-the-point rundown on everything you will need to make an indie film. Does a good job of going over the different types of equipment for the indie filmmaker.
Extreme DV at Used-Car Prices
Rick Schmidt
Rick Schmidt has a unique and passionate approach to filmmaking, no doubt. This is an interesting read that helps to put a little fun back into filmmaking.
Making Documentary Films and Reality Videos
Barry Hampe
I found this book to be a bit slow, but it still contains great advice. This is a pretty popular book among aspiring documentary filmmakers.
The Hero with a Thousand Faces
Joseph Campbell
This is a must read for anyone attempting to write their own script or story. This book applies to life as much as it does storytelling.
