Drawing Books
Below is a list of drawing books that I have and recommend. Clicking on an image below will open a new window at amazon.com where you can read details and reviews about the book.
Dynamic Figure Drawing
Burne Hogarth
A great book from master drawer Burne Hogarth. The images in this book focus on breaking the figure into the basic shapes; a key for any type of drawing. If you want to improve or hone your figure drawing skills, draw from the images in this book... over and over again. One of my favorites.
Drawing the Human Head
Burne Hogarth
This is another great one from Hogarth. This book is a must in learning how to break down the human head and face into simple shapes. Full of images to draw from. I have used this book for both drawing and sculpture.
Drawing Dynamic Hands
Burne Hogarth
This book from Hogarth focus on the human hand. As with all of his books, there is a large amount of images to draw from. Bone and muscle structure of the hand are made clear with Hogarth's drawings in this book.
Dynamic Anatomy
Burne Hogarth
I have used this book as a reference for both sculpture and drawing. As an art anatomy book is goes farther than just showing drawn images of muscles and bones. The book is full of figures in dynamic poses and points out how the inner structure of the body shapes the outer layers. The actual text within the book is somewhat dry, but helpful all the same.
Anatomy For The Artist
Jeno Barcsay
The focus of this book is on anatomy. The majority of the drawings focus on the muscles, bones, and their names. Not as much fun as the Hogarth books, but provides a more analytical approach to the breakdown of the human figure.
Anatomy For The Artist
Tom Flint
This book is similar to the one above, but is much more artist friendly. I use the sections on proportion and posture in this book often. Offered used at amazon.com or you can get a new copy from Barnes and Noble.
